Thomas Tayebwa has officially taken the oath as the Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament in a ceremony attended by the president of Uganda, the chief justice, top government officials, legislators, and invited guests.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, Tayebwa received the instruments of power from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, symbolising the formal assumption of his duties as Deputy Speaker.

The event marked another key milestone in the constitution of the 12th Parliament, with leaders emphasizing the importance of unity, effective legislation, and accountability in the new parliamentary term.

Speaking shortly after taking the oath, Tayebwa pledged to serve Parliament diligently and uphold the principles of fairness, discipline, and professionalism while presiding over parliamentary business. He also thanked Members of Parliament for the trust they placed in him.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni congratulated the Deputy Speaker upon handing over the instruments of authority and urged Parliament to focus on legislation that promotes national development, service delivery, and economic transformation.

Several Members of Parliament applauded Tayebwa’s leadership experience, describing his return to the office as a sign of continuity and stability within the House. Supporters and legislators from the ruling National Resistance Movement also celebrated the occasion, saying they expect smooth coordination of parliamentary activities during the new term.

The swearing-in ceremony comes as the 12th Parliament continues to organize its leadership structures following the election of the Speaker and other parliamentary officials.
