But there\u2019s another<br \/>measure that\u2019s just as important, even if it doesn\u2019t always make the headlines: who<br \/>gets the opportunity to build that progress.<br \/>In Uganda and Tanzania, that story is beginning to change.<br \/>For a long time, skilled trades such as welding, rigging, and heavy equipment<br \/>operation have been seen as men\u2019s jobs. It wasn\u2019t always written down, but it was<br \/>deeply ingrained in the way the industry worked. The focus isn\u2019t on lowering the bar. It\u2019s on ensuring that everyone<br \/>with the talent and determination has an equal chance to succeed.<br \/>Across the 1,443-kilometre corridor, that shift is becoming increasingly visible. More<br \/>women are stepping into roles that were once considered out of reach, proving<br \/>through their skill and performance that competence, not gender, is what defines<br \/>excellence in the industry.<br \/>At the core of this project is a commitment to National Content; a strategy designed<br \/>to ensure that the economic benefits of oil and gas infrastructure remain within host<br \/>nations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10687\" src=\"https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP2-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP2-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP2-1024x716.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP2-768x537.jpg 768w, https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP2-150x105.jpg 150w, https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP2-450x315.jpg 450w, https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP2-1200x839.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP2.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\"\/>While supporting local suppliers remains an important part of the project, EACOP\u2019s<br \/>long-term impact is also being shaped through investment in people.<br \/>Working with institutions such as the Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba (UPIK) and<br \/>vocational training colleges across Tanzania, the EACOP Academy and its tier-one<br \/>contractors have developed specialized training programmes to equip local talent<br \/>with practical, industry-ready skills.<br \/>Participants earn internationally recognized certifications, including those from the<br \/>Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) and OPITO, in high-demand<br \/>technical fields such as 3G and 6G coded welding, mechanical maintenance, non-<br \/>destructive testing (NDT), and heavy equipment operation. These qualifications not<br \/>only prepare trainees for work on the pipeline project but also give them skills that<br \/>are recognized and valued across the global energy and construction industries.<\/p>\n<p>EACOP\u2019s National Content team notes that, \u201cOur objective is not simply to build a<br \/>pipeline, but to build local capacity that outlasts the construction phase.\u201d To date,<br \/>hundreds of local youths have entered these specialized pathways, retaining vital<br \/>technical value within host communities.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10686\" src=\"https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP-1-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP-1-450x300.jpg 450w, https:\/\/elixnews.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/EACOP-1.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\"\/><br \/>Historically, heavy lifting operations and pipeline welding suffered from low female<br \/>representation due to physical stigmas and cultural barriers. By investing in local talent and championing equal opportunity, the project<br \/>is demonstrating that East Africa\u2019s industrial future will be powered by a diverse,<br \/>highly skilled workforce.<br \/>For the team driving these initiatives, this cultural shift represents the project&#8217;s true<br \/>legacy.
