Commercial aircraft deals worth $48.8 billion were announced on the opening day of the Farnborough International Airshow, giving the world\u2019s leading aerospace exhibition a strong start.<\/p>\n

Figures released by the UK\u2019s aerospace trade association, ADS, show that airlines placed 234 firm aircraft orders on the first day of the five-day event, a 44 percent increase compared to the opening day of the previous Farnborough Airshow.<\/p>\n
The orders are expected to generate about $7 billion in economic value for the United Kingdom, supporting its aerospace manufacturing industry and a supply chain that employs more than 113,000 highly skilled workers.<\/p>\n
Aircraft engine manufacturers also recorded brisk business, with 466 firm engine orders announced during the opening day.<\/p>\n
ADS Chief Executive Kevin Craven said the orders reflected continued demand for new aircraft as airlines expand their fleets and modernise operations.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday\u2019s orderbook is a clear signal that confidence in the global aerospace industry remains high, with airlines continuing to invest in the aircraft and technologies that will shape the future of flight,\u201d Craven said.<\/p>\n
He said the UK aerospace industry contributes about $19.3 billion to the country\u2019s economy each year and generates $41.3 billion in exports, underlining its importance to Britain\u2019s manufacturing sector.<\/p>\n
The strong opening comes as aircraft manufacturers continue to work through record demand. ADS says the global commercial aviation industry has an order backlog of 16,925 aircraft, while new aircraft orders during the first half of 2026 were 15 percent higher than in the same period last year.<\/p>\n
Held every two years, the Farnborough International Airshow brings together aircraft manufacturers, airlines, defence companies, suppliers and government delegations from across the world.
