The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) held discussions with the Defence Attaché of the Republic of Korea to Uganda, Colonel Kim Seha, on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting, held this afternoon at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters, was also attended by Colonel Kim’s secretary, Ms Choi Yun-Mi, and the UPDF Chief of Joint Staff, Lt Gen Jack Bakasumba.

During the meeting, the CDF welcomed Colonel Kim and reflected on the longstanding friendship between Uganda and South Korea. He commended the professionalism and advanced technological capabilities of the Korean Armed Forces, noting that the partnership between the two countries had evolved beyond diplomatic relations into practical cooperation.

The CDF also reiterated Uganda’s consideration of opening a permanent mission in Seoul, saying the move would help deepen bilateral relations and support defence modernisation efforts.

A key focus of the discussions was the expansion of cooperation into healthcare and medical training. Recognising South Korea’s expertise in advanced medical technology, hospital systems, surgical techniques, biomedical research and emergency battlefield medicine, the CDF welcomed deeper collaboration in the medical field.

In response, Colonel Kim committed to coordinating the training of UPDF officers in medical-related courses, leveraging South Korea’s expertise to enhance the healthcare capabilities of Uganda’s armed forces.

He also welcomed Uganda’s plans to establish a permanent mission in Seoul, saying it would further strengthen the already strong relations between the two countries.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to expanding Uganda-South Korea cooperation in defence, technology, healthcare and other areas that contribute to the welfare of service personnel and national development.
